Iguana Bar and Restaurant

One of the true gringo San Juan del Sur restaurants and bars, located right where the main road entering town ends at the beach. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner,  from 8:00 am. till dawn sometimes, specially on weekends. Extensive tropical cocktail menu, with a full international bar and a menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, beef and poultry. Right on the beach. English spoken.

El Colibri

Kind of hidden near the park, off the beaten path from the many restaurants on the beach front, El Colibri is located behind the Catholic Church. Open only for dinner from 6:00 p.m. on. Mary Jane, the owner/manager is extremely friendly and accommodating. Great menu with a long list of daily specials. The Spanish meatballs and the fish with almond cream sauce are just outstanding. Décor is original and they have a  nice garden as well as inside seating. A must while in San Juan del Sur. Very accommodating with kids. A true culinary experience in town.

Sushi Q

Located on the main beachfront street in San Juan del Sur, on the opposite side of the beach, Sushi Q serves outstanding sushi in a pleasant, very clean environment. Their specialty is of course sushi, however their menu includes a variety of other dishes, and they also have outstanding steaks. Owned and run by Abraham and his wife Holly, Abraham is a top chef with many years of experience and Holly is a great host. Menu is somewhat pricey for Nicaraguan standards, but the culinary experience is well worth it!

Bamboo Beach

Located on the far end of the beach, on the north side of the bay, Bamboo Beach sets itself apart from the rest in San Juan del Sur. A lovely beachfront location, with a nice pool overlooking the beach, a fresh thatched palm roof and its lovely asian looking décor create a fantastic tropical ambiance. Food is pricey, but service very good, staff is English spoken and their menu has a strong Thai influence. Great place to relax and enjoy a good meal. Open for lunch and dinner.

Bistro La Canoa

Located on the mountain with a fantastic panoramic view of San Juan del Sur Bay, The Pelicans Eye resort offers a lovely setting, this bistro, located at the top of the resort offers a basic light lunch, including sandwiches, veggie plates, ceviches and nachos amongst other options. They have a full international bar with top brands as well as  really ice cold beer. The most exclusive spot in town. Make sure you take the drive to the top, because you will be worn out by the steps if you try walking up! Best spot in town to watch the sun set.

Pelican Eye Resort Restaurant.

Located in the lobby of this high end resort, they have one of the most elegant, and yet relaxed spots in town. They have a sunset happy hour offering special prices for their drinks and sunset bites menu. Lovely infinity pool!

Blue Marlin Mexican Grill

Located right on the beach, this pleasant restaurant offers Mexican style food as well as sea food dishes. Pleasant deck over the beach. Good service and ice cold beer.

Barrio Café Restaurant

Located at the Hotel Barrio Cafe, they offer some of the best coffee in San Juan del Sur. This informal garden and terrace setting offers pies, brownies and other pastries, fresh fruit drinks and ice cold beers. They also have a branch at Playa Maderas Beach.

El Buen Gusto

Located right on the beach, across the street from the Hotel La Estacion. Open daily from 10 till 10. Full international bar, outstanding service and an ample menu including a variety of seafood, beef and chicken selections. Also a variety of ceviches.

El Gato Negro

Café & bookstore open daily from 7 a.m. till 3 p.m. Wi fi available for clients. Probably the best stop for breakfast in town. Pleasant setting with a lounge area as well as dinning tables. Outstanding café. Frequented by expats living in San Juan del Sur that wish to catch up with each other and check their emails. Breakfast and lunch menu.

Maurizio’s Pizzeria

Kind of hidden in town, close to the park and Catholic Church, Maurizio, an Italian who has lived many years in San Juan del Sur has one of the best Italian restaurants in Nicaragua. The place is small, with sidewalk tables and now with a nice thatched roof patio, and you might not be impressed by its look, but once you try the food you will be hooked! Great pasta and pizza, very friendly service, and Maurizio, the owner is always here and ready to talk to his customers. Prices are also extremely reasonable.

Pizzeria San Juan La Playa.

The best pizza in San Juan del Sur is right on the beach! A nice selection of pizza and pasta, nice ice cold beer and a full international bar. Closed on Tuesdays, Open noon to 10 on Sunday, otherwise, open only for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. This place is also owned by Maurizio, so you have the same great food, with the view of the beach, but without the personal charm that Maurizio offers in the other locale.

Meson Español

A nice, modern restaurant right on the beach and featuring Spanish cuisine. El Meson Español  is a sister restaurant of the famous Meson Español restaurant in Managua. Open Wednesday to Monday for lunch and dinner, and featuring outstanding food. Slightly pricy for Nicaraguan standards, but very affordable by international prices. Nice selection of wines. Full international bar. For those hot days, try their refreshing sangria.

Dorados Bar and Grill

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8:00 am. till 11 p.m. Variety of burgers, sandwiches, burritos and tacos. A very complete selection of seafood, beef, pork and chicken dishes. Located across the street from the beach bars. English spoken. Full international bar is open till 2:00 a.m.

El Timon

Probably the most popular beach restaurant and bar in town! Very Nica ambiance, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Extensive menu, specializing in seafood dishes, but offering a bit of everything.  Can’t miss it as you arrive at the beach. Full international bar. Good food, affordable prices, good service, make it truly popular.

The Black Whale

An interesting and somewhat eclectic spot. Open nightly featuring huge burgers,  german dishes as well as chicken and fish specialties. A nice garden patio, streetside terrace and interior lounge are some of the different atmospheres here. Ice cold beer, as well as a full international bar. Very popular with the younger crowds.
